WWWJDIC Online Dictionary
An excellent online Japanese-English dictionary that has proven its value
many times during our translation projects. The primary server is hosted
by Monash University; there are also a number of mirror sites around the
world for more local access. Also, work is underway to add additional
languages to the dictionary.
UT Anime Club
The Anime Club of the University of Texas at Austin. By all accounts, one
of the largest and most successful anime clubs in the nation. One of our
Council members serves as one of the UT club’s officers. Also, most
of our subtitling work is publically shown here first. Membership is
restricted to current UT students, faculty, and staff, but showings are
free and open to the public. (Membership is required for such extras as
access to the Club’s lending library.) Meets every Friday during
normal UT academic sessions, and on some Saturdays for special events.
CD Japan
This is where we purchase almost all of our DVDs and CDs. Their service
is fast, reliable, and reasonably priced: You pay the standard Japanese
street price (minus tax, which you do not have to pay if ordering from
outside of Japan), plus a flat 5% service fee. Turnaround time for an
order is about a week, and special orders and pre-orders are welcome.
The also offer a limited selection of related goods (figures, etc.).
AMO Tokyo
http://www.amotokyo.com/
[Out of business]
Another good source of imported anime goods. While CD Japan carries many
non-anime items, AMO’s focus was on anime and related goods (anime
soundtracks, etc.). They offered free EMS (express air) shipping for orders
of over $200.
(This link will be removed soon; it will remain listed here for a while
for informational purposes.)
Amazon.co.jp
Yet another place to obtain import DVDs and related merchandise. They
seem to be especially good at obtaining limited first-pressing editions
of DVDs after CD Japan and AMO Tokyo can no longer provide them. Amazon
Japan also now has an English-language interface to their system (as do
CD Japan and AMO Tokyo), although most of their product entries are still
in Japanese only.
AnimeOnDVD
A good source of anime-related news and DVD reviews. AnimeOnDVD is
also the home of a well-maintained
list of licensed
anime (with informaton on who licensed it and when the announcement
was made).
AnimeSuki
For those who prefer to download anime rather than request copies on
tape, AnimeSuki is an excellent source of links for downloading
fan-subtitled anime episodes.
